Built by People Who Understand Shift Work

WelfareCheckr was created by frontline workers who understand long shifts, fatigue, disrupted routines, and emotional demand.

Wellbeing should be practical, accessible and fit seamlessly into an already busy life.

Our Story

WelfareCheckr was born from lived experience on the frontline.

After years working in emergency services and other high-pressure healthcare environments, we witnessed the physical and emotional toll that shift work can have on those who dedicate their lives to caring for others. Long hours, disrupted sleep, fatigue, critical incidents and cumulative stress often become accepted as "part of the job," leaving little time to recognise when our own wellbeing begins to decline.

Like many frontline professionals, we found there were countless systems designed to monitor and improve patient outcomes, yet very few practical tools that encouraged workers to regularly check in with themselves.

We believed there had to be a better way.

WelfareCheckr was created to empower shift workers to recognise changes in their wellbeing early, build healthier recovery habits and make informed decisions that support long-term physical and mental health. Rather than focusing only on moments of crisis, our approach encourages proactive wellbeing through simple, evidence-informed daily check-ins, education and practical recovery strategies.

Today, WelfareCheckr continues to grow alongside the frontline community it was built to serve. Every feature, guide and resource is developed with one purpose in mind: helping the people who spend their careers looking after everyone else remember to look after themselves too.

Because when those who care for others are supported to thrive, everyone benefits.

WelfareCheckr isn't just a wellbeing platform. It's a commitment to changing the way frontline professionals think about their own health, recovery and resilience, one shift at a time.

Our Mission

At WelfareCheckr, our mission is to empower shift workers with practical, evidence-informed tools that help them recognise changes in wellbeing early, prioritise recovery and build sustainable habits that support long-term health.

We believe wellbeing shouldn't begin only when someone reaches burnout or crisis. By encouraging regular self-reflection, promoting healthy recovery strategies and providing access to trusted resources, we aim to help individuals make small, consistent changes that have a lasting impact.

Whether you're finishing your first night shift or your thousandth, our goal is to ensure you have the knowledge, tools and support to care for yourself with the same dedication you show to others every day.

"Because those who spend their lives looking after others deserve the tools to look after themselves too."

Our Vision

We envision a future where every shift worker has easy access to wellbeing tools that support healthier careers, stronger teams and safer communities.

Our vision is to become the leading digital wellbeing platform for frontline professionals and shift workers by combining lived experience, scientific evidence and innovative technology to make self-care practical, accessible and part of everyday life.

As WelfareCheckr grows, we aim to continually expand our library of educational resources, interactive tools and personalised wellbeing insights, helping individuals not only recover from the demands of shift work but thrive throughout their careers.

Our values

People First

We design tools that prioritise people, not performance.

Practical Wellbeing

No unrealistic routines. No wellness jargon. Just practical, individualised support.

Built on Evidence

Trusted guidance, not guesswork. Our app is evidence-informed, relevant and grounded in the realities of shift work.

Stronger Together

Wellbeing is not something people have to manage alone, because resilience grows through connection, not isolation.

Meet the Founders

Amiee Costello - Co-Founder & Director

With a career spanning many years in emergency services, healthcare and leadership, Amiee has spent years working in environments where fatigue, trauma, disrupted sleep and high-pressure decision-making are part of everyday life. Throughout her career, she recognised a common challenge: while professionals are trained to care for others, there are very few practical tools that encourage them to regularly care for themselves. This realisation, combined with her own lived experiences and passion for improving staff wellbeing, became the foundation for WelfareCheckr. Amiee is committed to combining frontline insight with evidence-informed practice to create practical wellbeing tools that are accessible, meaningful and relevant to the realities of shift work. Her vision is to help individuals identify early warning signs, strengthen recovery habits and build long-term resilience so they can continue doing the work they love while protecting their own health and wellbeing.

Holly Gilbert - Co-Founder & Director

Holly brings extensive frontline experience and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by emergency service personnel and shift workers. Her passion for supporting colleagues, promoting healthy workplaces and improving wellbeing outcomes has been instrumental in shaping WelfareCheckr. With a strong focus on practical solutions, Holly believes wellbeing should be integrated into everyday life rather than addressed only during times of crisis. She is passionate about creating simple, evidence-informed resources that help people recover effectively, maintain resilience and perform at their best throughout their careers. Together with Amiee, Holly is helping build a platform designed by frontline professionals, for frontline professionals, one that encourages people to prioritise their own wellbeing with the same dedication they show to those they serve.

You spend your career looking after others. Don't forget to look after yourself.
